If Big-block V8’s started a band, this is what it might sound like.

Los Angeles, CA based punk-rock band The Chonks have just shared their latest EP - a collection of 5 tracks titled Imanust Ynnhoj and in true Chonks nature, it’s louder then a big-block V8, abrasive, and it fucks.

Putting their collective consciousness together and crawling into legendary DIY-Venue The Smell to record Imanust Ynnhoj, the four-piece have created a record that feels like you’re seeing the band rip apart a dive-bar live and sounds unlike any punk record we’ve ever heard. We asked The Chonks to tell us about the inspiration behind Imanust Ynnhoj and what the creative process was like:

“The inspiration was drawn from each other, pop culture and absurdity. There are many themes in the ep that became the way they are based on how we live our lives, we didn’t completely deliberate on the concept of the ep or the songs even. As much as we love to play around with inside jokes the tone and the project is sincere and serious. The songs each talk about issues and emotions that we’ve dealt with and deal with on a day to day basis. Some topics in the songs aren’t specific and can apply to many different life situations which can change depending on the listening conditions and the listener’s current state of mind.”

“The creative process was definitely different from what we were used to. It could of been ranging from awesome to splitting hairs. The process wasn’t just going and writing and recording. We went back to our roots and recorded at The Smell which is a huge part of our band’s upbringing and growth. The community, the sound, the feelings, the jitters, the laughter, the stank alley all hold a special place in our hearts. All and all we had fun putting this EP together.”

“The ep really just wanted to happen and it did, the art forced itself from us. From our subconscious selves it came out and came together from the three completely different angles of our Chonk minds. We had a lot of fun putting this together from three views, it boosted the creative process in a way we weren’t used to. Ultimately there was just a lot of love and joy put into these songs. We hope whoever decides to listen can hear that.”
