Suzie True Will Cry If They Want To on Debut LP 'Saddest Girl at the Party'
Los Angeles, CA garage-pop trio Suzie True just dropped their debut LP and it’s a heartfelt, trash-pop dream - perfect for sleepovers, daydreaming, and trying on different outfits in a 90s teen-movie-style montage.
One of the only things getting us through this COVID-19 blur has been new music and today, Los Angeles, CA based trio Suzie True are helping us get through another hazy 24 hours with the release of their shinning debut LP - a lovely trash-pop dream titled Saddest Girl at the Party.
Out on Philadelphia, PA’s Get Better Records Saddest Girl at the Party is Suzie True’s second release following their 2018 EP Nothing To You and it sees the band in their brightest light yet with 11 feverishly-catchy pop-punk songs about growing up, figuring it all out, and trying to have a good time along the way.

We spoke with lead singer and bass player Lexi McCoy about the process behind the album and the bands history up until now. On the theme of the record, McCoy explains, “The central theme of the album is just navigating the world as an "adult" in your early twenties, trying to figure shit out and making mistakes but still trying to have fun through it all. I wrote these songs when I was about 22-24 and the songs are just about what I was going through, the fun stuff and the heavy stuff - dating, crushes, breakups, friendship, shitty day jobs, fucking around and having fun, mental health, addiction, nostalgia, accepting my queer identity, and trying to heal from past trauma.”

Suzie True has been around as a band for a few years now, what’s changed from the day you started the band up to the release of Saddest Girl at the Party?
So much!! I originally started Suzie True as a solo project before I moved to LA in 2016 with no clear goals or expectations, really just for fun and to try to grow as a songwriter. It wasn't until I met Sarah in 2017 that I decided I wanted Suzie True to be a full band, but it wasn't until G joined in 2018 that we really became Suzie True and started finding our sound. It was a lot of trial and error and figuring shit out along the way, but once G joined it all fell into place in a way I could not be more excited about. Part of why this album means so much to us is that it's our first release as the actual Suzie True (aka the three of us) because the EP we put out in 2018 was recorded before we met G.
What is Saddest Girl at the Party perfect for?
SGATP is perfect for sleepovers, daydreaming, driving on the freeway with all the windows down and screaming, trying on different outfits in a 90s teen movie style montage, and for listening to instead of texting that person who you know you should not text!!
