The perfect blend of dramatic emo, authentically heart-wrenching indie and catchy as hell pop feels progressively harder to come by. Seemingly left behind sometime in the 2010s on Warped Tour routes and Myspace pages, its rarity has left many with a nostalgic craving for a resurgence - but this time bigger and better. And genre-bending NYC based musician Jhariah Clare delivers all of this and more.

[November 27th] Jhariah released his newest single “Needed a Change of Pace," a maximalist dance track about "faking your death, starting over, and not really feeling bad about it at all" with a fitting trippy fever dream video to match.

If you blended up Panic! at The Disco, MARINA, and Gloria Estefan, you'd have “Needed a Change of Pace". The expertly crafted single is the pinnacle of theatrical emo pop, driven by a punchy beat with glitchy horn accents. But Jhariah's powerhouse vocals steal the spotlight, from belting on the edge of screaming to cutting drastically into a haunting falsetto with catchy melodies to match. Jhariah doesn't hold back - and it pays off in the best way possible. And all of this makes sense considering Jhariah's wide range of inspirations:

“Sonically, there’s a bit of inspiration from everywhere. I always love drawing from the very current music I’m listening to. There are definitely periods where I listen to nothing but songs I heard on Tik Tok. At the same time there’s stuff that’s always affecting my music, like MCR’s huge production and instrumentation or the bass boosted Reggaeton I hear blasting from cars in the Bronx. Some sounds are at my core, but especially being as chronically online as I am, I’m constantly absorbing so much new music. That makes it really fun to see the intersection of my core influences and whatever my newest obsession is."

Jhariah and his drummer/collaborator Cole Raser embdy DIY - producing, recording, mixing and mastering all four of Jhariah's 2020 releases together, each release gaining more and more traction. Despite it all, 2020 has been a big year for Jhariah, and it can only get bigger from here.
