PREMIERE: Thrill Touch Tap Into Our Noisiest Desires with New Live EP
by JAMES A. DURAN
Los Angeles based Thrill Touch have tapped into our deepest noise-driven-fuzz-rock desires with their latest release - a three track live EP paired alongside glorious psychedelic-dripped video footage, courtesy of Highland Parks Highland Park TV
Last time we caught up with Thrill Touch was at our last event, about a month before COVID-19 viciously isolated and took over all of our lives. While it seems like an eternity ago when we were all hanging out at venues, talking about nothing and everything between cigarettes, the noise-rock trio haven’t lost their grit or energy during theses times, and this live EP - aptly titled HLP.TV, serves as a 20 minute testament to their chaotic beauty. Filled with distorted vocals, screeching bass tones, and playful beats, Thrill Touch manages to create an atmosphere not unlike a thrilling acid trip that leaves you in everlasting awe at the end of the night.
“To us, this release represents a time where everything felt like it was finally falling into place after a long period of nothing going right. They were written in a personally turbulent moment (though the world has seem to have caught up to, and surpassed us, in that regard). On every level, everything was breaking, or revealing itself to have never worked in the first place. We felt powerless to wrest control of sometimes even the basest of our needs. It was (and is) a moment of coming to terms with nebulous systems of control & domination from the personal level ballooning outward into a crushing, un-navigable mist. Suddenly these songs just clicked, and the new tracks reflect all those emotions raging in us through that time: Frustration, powerlessness, anger and anxiety mixed with moments of bliss, back to frustration and repeat.
We wanted to release this set because we feel HLP.tv captured and amplified all these emotional processes. We’re grateful for Be In A Band Or Die being the ones to premier it for us, because they promoted our last truly special show before the pandemic hit. BIABOD and HLP.tv made us feel like family, which each of us think about a lot when feeling down in isolation.”
