Los Angeles, CA synth-pop artist Doll Klaw has shared the second single off her upcoming EP and it’s a dreamy love letter to a lifelong friend
In the second single off her upcoming EP Thorns synth-pop artist Jessica Caro also-known-as Doll Klawsends one final love letter out to her lifelong childhood friend ‘Angelica’ who recently passed on.
Drowned in wavy, reverberated synths and paired with lyrics relatable to anyone who’s lost, the single is something out of an 80’s dream and is sure to make you feel, for a brief moment, as if you knew Angelica too. Caro spoke with us about how she hand crafted not only the lyrics, but even the instrumentation in memory of what her friend would have enjoyed:
I wanted this song to be completely made for Angelica. Every detail behind the instrumental and everything was with her in mind. When I was creating the synth parts for the song I was like “Angelica would like this!” She was a huge Joy Division and 80’s fan. Actually the first time I watched the movie Control was with her in her bedroom. So automatically I knew I would have to also hop back on my bass guitar for this track.
The lyrics in the third verse are “I should have reached out, we could’ve hung out, no doubt, you’ll always be my friend, till the very end.” Well, I was completely heartbroken when she passed away. Especially since it had been a couple years since we had spoken. What made it worse was I felt like it was for such a dumb reason. You don’t think about something like this happening but when this did happen I felt so much regret for not spending her last years of her life with her. Especially because regardless of what may have happened I still loved her and considered her to be my friend. So I suppose the lyrics can be considered a letter filled with what I wish I could have expressed to her.
