Melody Caudill has been spending time off-stage in Los Angeles, CA writing new music, managing her online teen-focused magazine - and playing a lot of Among Us.
Hey! What is your name and pronouns?
Melody - She/her
If you had to pick any fictional character to describe your current mood, who would it be and why?
The fictional character that best describes my current mood would probably be Frances from the movie Frances Ha. Lately I feel like I've grown up a lot and have been really figuring out who I am, and I can really relate to Frances in her journey of doing that. Max Caulfield from the video game Life is Strange is definitely the character that I relate to the most as a person in general though.
Without being able play shows, we're asking artists how they've been spending their time during quarantine. What have you been doing to stay busy?
I am currently a junior in high school, so unfortunately most of my quarantine has been doing school in my bedroom, which is both super awesome but also kind of draining. Other than school, I've been watching a lot of tv shows (some of which being American Horror Story, We Are Who We Are, and The Queen's Gambit) and playing A LOT of Among Us and the Last of Us Part II. I also started an online magazine for teenagers to share their art called Voiceover, which has been a super amazing outlet other than music for me.
"Teachers Pet" was just re-released on Lauren Records in June - I love the EP so much! What were some inspirations for the EP?
Thank you so much! The artists that were the most influential in making the EP were Snail Mail, That Dog, Forth Wanderers, Illuminati Hotties, Beabadoobee, and Beach Bunny (and a ton more). They all have really cool styles that are all pretty different but were equally as inspiration to both my songwriting and recording processes. Other than other artists, I take inspiration from everywhere with my songwriting and try to be as honest about my feelings as possible, which I guess is also kind of a source of inspiration for me.
I am also so in love with your acoustic version of your song "Mosquito Bites" that came out in October! Any future plans for more acoustic covers or new releases?
Aw thank you again! There are definitely some more acoustic tunes on the way that are coming out sooner than later... I have also been writing a lot and have enough new material for another EP, so once quarantine is somewhat over, hopefully I'll be able to record some more less acoustic songs! But for now, stay tuned for a few new chill songs coming very soon :)
Lastly, what are a few songs you've been currently listening to?
It is so hard to narrow it down, but the top 5 songs I've been loving recently are:
’No Good at Lying’ - Charlie Hickey
’Mansplain’ - THICK
’Stringers’ - Momma
’Sad Boy’ - Suzie True
’Invisible Man’ - The Breeder
