In the music video for her single ‘So Baby’, LA’s Ariel Beesley runs full-force from the frustrations of her past into a future of raging power and self-love.
LA’s Ariel Beesley has just shared the music video for her single ‘So Baby’ and while the track originally came out all the way back in November, it was well worth the fucking wait. Directed by Joey Kuhn, the film sees Beesley running full-force from the frustrating ashes of her past into a raging future of power and immense self-love. Shot in a dream-like sequence by DP Bruce Thierry Cheung, the video perfectly captures Beesleys relentless energy and burning optimism - something only rivaled by her live performances. We spoke with Beesley about the creative process behind the film and the fuel for her passionate rage:
“Joey (Kuhn) is a longtime friend, and I’m honored to say, creative collaborator of mine. He directed one of my past music videos but I think it’s safe to say we both felt this one was special. Because we are such close friends, I was able to break down to him what writing “So Baby” meant to me in the first place: finding myself through my rage, taking a stand against being treated like a doormat by boys who don’t know who they are, and in the process learning to love who I’ve become.
After we talked about it, Joey came back to me with the entire concept for the video. He said the way I described the feelings to him it was like I was “falling through memories.” And he wanted to portray that in the video. I’ll never forget that because I felt it hit the nail on the head of what it’s felt like to grow. He brought in Bruce to DP, who is absolutely incredibly talented in his own right, and together we ran around making this video. The three of us (but also shout out to Heather Rose Harris on hair/makeup and Wyatt for the sick as hell car), and a camera. No budget. In the middle of the pandemic (we all tested negative before shooting). We were lucky enough to have Fotokem LA to color correct it and they went above and beyond. I am so eternally grateful to everyone who brought this video to life.
I feel like my pain has been taken and made into something really beautiful I can watch whenever I want. I hope other people find strength in it as well.”
