Alexa Van and The Black Outs have just shared ‘Hero’, a hard hitting, rock-n-fucking-roll track with an emphasis on self acceptance and casting out false idols. Alexa Van’s passionate screams are backed by her bands signature of over-driven guitars with a ferocious rhythm section straight out of early 2000’s dance-punk - we’re obsessed. We asked Alexa Van to tell us a bit about the track:
“Hero is about embracing self acceptance from wherever you are. That just because someone has a platform or a following (or is the president) doesn’t actually mean they have “the answers.” Or in a time when everyone’s trying to find betterment outside themselves, spiritual leaders and advice from whoever the fuck- to give up on the idea that a “hero” can save us with advice that’s nearly impossible to follow without actually reaching spiritual enlightenment and transcending the human experience all together. Even though it sounds like a song saying “fuck you,” it’s actually more power to the people. Just be a freak, be wherever you are, you don’t have to be better- the chase for better never ends and you’ll always be a victim to life’s circumstances if you forget to enjoy the ride.”
