If you weren’t aware, our editorial contributor Lexi McCoy and booking manager Gee Leonardo run Precious Bitch Presents - a Los Angeles, CA based booking collective with a focus on amplifying marginalized voices. Precious Bitch was just getting their start with a handful of LA events before COVID-19 hit and put live entertainment on an indefinite hiatus so we’re overjoyed to share that today the collective has co-released a digital-cover-compilation with Suzie True to benefit the Sogorea Te Land Trust titled Eat The Rich: A Gossip Girl Soundtrack Cover Compilation.
True to it’s name, the collection of 24 songs by 24 different artists features covers from Gossip Girl in order of appearance and all of the proceeds will be donated to the Sogorea Te Land Trust, an urban Indigenous women-led land trust based in San Fransisco that facilitates the return of indigenous land to indigenous people. Precious Bitch Co-Founder Lexi McCoy shared some background on the record with us:
“We hadn't done anything with Precious Bitch over quarantine yet, but I knew I eventually wanted to put out a cover compilation. I started watching Gossip Girl over quarantine because I needed a ridiculous show to watch and I was shocked that the soundtrack was so good!! It's a huge soundtrack with a ton of hit songs from 2007-2011 as well as a lot of songs you'd never expect to be on Gossip Girl. When you look at the soundtrack you get transported to a very specific place and time that has that certain kind of weird, awkward late 2000s nostalgia, so I knew it was perfect for a covers compilation.”
