The Personal Tsunami of Chandler Davie's “Sometimes”

“Sometimes” is an atmospheric electro-pop melody that is promising for Chandler’s future works.

Growth is the flower that emerges from the soil and lifts its head into the unknown. Coming from a lengthy hiatus after his early days with the Southern California band, Refrain, Chandler Davie takes a bold new direction. “Sometimes” is an atmospheric electro-pop melody that is promising for Chandler’s future works.

A droning rhythm advances the music forward like a deep siren. Softer notes scatter like rain drops across the three minute song. The instrumentation sounds as if the Earth were slowing down to a still, and provides a strong background for Davie’s lyrics on a deteriorating relationship, but more critically, a deteriorating self.

Davie’s vocal performance should not be overlooked here either — in harmony with those higher electric notes, Davie heightens his voice to disguise himself into the instrumentation; his years as the vocalist for his previous band has enriched his vocal ability for this ghastly song.

“Sometimes” is a beautiful and melancholy song that nearly sounds like a self-made orchestra. It is moody and spacey where one can fill in the gaps for their own retrospection. Chandler Davie r makes a strong opening for his solo career with this single, and we can’t wait to see where his creativity goes next.
