PREMIERE: NIIS Reclaim Power On New Single 'FUCK YOU BOY'
by JAMES DURAN
The LA-based punks aren’t fucking around on their new track
Los Angeles, CA-based NIIS have just shared a new single + accompanying music video for their track ‘Fuck You Boy’ - we’re obviously fucking OBSESSED. The song has been a staple of the bands live set since their early days pre-pandemic and now, it isn’t uncommon to hear rowdy fans screaming the lyrics as lead-vocalist Mimi SanDoe flips off every man in the crowd.
Driven by a reclamation of power from the ashes of a previous relationship, ‘Fuck You Boy’ nails the bands signature of serious subjects brought front and center by walls of chaotic, hard-hitting sound - a duality attempted by many but mastered by few, Niis are the few.
We spoke with NIIS front-woman Mimi SanDoe about the inspiration for the track, the ‘lighthearted’ Gilbert Trejo-directed music video, and which boys can (specifically) FUCK OFF
What was the initial inspiration when writing ‘Fuck You Boy’?
The initial inspiration was a breakup with my ex. When we had broken up it felt like I had lost all my power. But writing this song helped heal me. I feel powerful whenever we play it, and it’s really an ode to anyone who has had to take back their power from an ex or just some asshole. I hope people feel powerful when they hear it. And powerful if they scream it!
