LIVE: AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS SELL-OUT MONDAY NIGHT AT THE VERMONT

Weeknights might as well be the weekend when you’re unemployed and as far as Mondays go…ours was second to fucking none.

This week, we made it out to the highly-anticipated Amyl and The Sniffers gig at The Vermont Hollywood. Presented by legendary LA-based promoter Minty Boi, the show sold out in less than a day upon announcement–when these Aussie shredders are in America, YOU PULL UP. Luckily, we were able to sneak in and get you the recap.

Flying in from Texas (and boy their arms weren’t tired), killer openers Die Spitz gave us ragged, Hole-tinged grunge and playful, riot grrrl aggression. Equal parts silly, reckless, and swaggering, it’s clear why the electric young newcomers have caught the attention of the Austin music scene and legendary acts like L7 alike.

Once Amy Taylor and her boys hit the stage, the at-capacity crowd became a nonstop moshing frenzy–those Aussie punks really know how to throw a rager. Supporting their third record Comfort To Me, the four-piece delivered hits like “Guided By Angels,” “Freaks To The Front,” and “Knifey” to eager ears, as well as delved into their earlier discography with “(Some Mutts) Can’t Be Muzzled” and even “Balaclava Boogie.” With her infectious toothy grin, bodybuilder posturing, and signature bark, Taylor prowled the stage with total command of the undying energy of the room.

Diehard fans crowd-surfed, slammed into each other with friendly depravity, and belted every lyric with her, sweating and smiling profusely, as the Sniffers wildly pulsed on to the very end. Even after the show ended and house lights went up, the people in the pit weren’t done moving–as country classics drifted through the speakers, they partnered up and turned it into a proper hoedown until they could dance no more. That’s the power of the Sniffers for you.
